Gearbox has announced that they will be remaking the classic space RTS titles Homeworld and Homeworld 2 in HD. At PAX Australia earlier today, the Plano, Texas company not only announced the remakes, but said the original games would be coming to online shops at some point in the future as well. After acquiring the rights to the games in the THQ sell-off in April, fans have been wondering what interest Gearbox had with the $1.35 million dollar purchase.
No other details given on the remakes so we don’t know if this mean a major overhaul of the titles or just an update to aesthetics. However, if the originals are making their way online, it doesn’t seem worth releasing an HD remake if it’s just a paint job.
Homeworld was critically acclaimed when first released in 1999, and won Game of the Year by PC Gamer and IGN.
