Screen Shot 2013-07-16 at 2.16.00 amWe’re five days into the sale, and some of us still have a few bucks here and there. If you can scrape a few dollars together, here’s Pixel Enemy’s tips and recommendations for the Steam’s Summer Sale Day 5.

Zarmena (@zarmena)

Elizabeth_R1Yet another day full of bargains. I’ll cut straight to the chase. Max Payne 3 is worth picking up for $9.99. While the game is a move away from the noir genre, it’s packed with action. The only downside is that it’s a little too short, but for Max Payne fans, this shouldn’t matter.

Bethesda’s Dishonored is a steal for $10.19. The game is pretty unique and I particularly loved the setting.

Other notable offers include: Mirror’s Edge and BioShock Infinite in the flash sale for $5.99 and $29.99 respectively. Mirror’s Edge received mediocre reviews from critics, but still managed to make its mark. BioShock Infinite is a strong contender for this year’s GOTY title, which is enough of a reason to pick it up for that price.

imagesI’ve always held the belief that Max Payne 3 was an under appreciated game, and here’s your chance to forgive yourself for doing so. At $9.99, Max Payne 3 is an amazing steal and, with the surprisingly fun multiplayer, it should have a decent amount of mileage.

At $3.99, Killing Floor should not be ignored, and let’s not even begin to go on about Dishonored. At $10.19, you would dishonor your wallet by not picking arguably the best new IP of 2012.

Finally, Mirror’s Edge is the most notable Flash Sale. Though quite short and somewhat broken, at $5.99, all is forgiven. Give Mirror’s Edge a chance, and, even with its fallacies, you’ll learn to give the game some love.

Dishonored and Max Payne 3 – “They look good so go get ‘em”

Hope everyone’s enjoying the Summer Sale so far. Day five brings with it some fantastic deals.

The first being Max Payne 3 for $10. Now, for some reason the reception Max Payne 3 got when it was first released was less than stellar. I’m not entirely sure why. Rockstar does a fantastic job taking over the series and handling its main protagonist, Max. The game tells a dark, gritty story. It kind of reminded me of the movie Man on Fire, which is a great thing. For $10 you owe it to yourself to check it out.

Screen Shot 2013-07-16 at 2.03.48 amFor the other “AAA” games of the day I would check out Mirrors Edge ($6), Dishonored ($10), and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 ($3.40). Each one of those are great games which you should definitely add to your collection. Dishonored won many GOTY awards last year.

If you like smaller, indie games then today’s your day. Reus, a “God” game, is only $5. It has you controlling these giants (water, land, swamp, mountain) and creating a world and inhabiting it with people. It’s a pretty neat game and gives you a ton of replayability. Castle Crashers is on sale for $3.74! That’s an absolute steal when it comes to the best side scrolling beat-em-up in the last few years. It’s a fantastic game to play alone, but even better when you get three buddies online to play. Dust: An Elysian Tale ($7.50) deserves your attention. Everything (sans music) was done by one guy in this game. It’s a beautiful, heartfelt journey whose subject matter gets very deep towards the end of the game.

Don’t miss out.

Screen Shot 2013-07-16 at 2.06.30 amIf you’re not broke yet, or run out of trading cards to sell, my recommendation for today’s deals is Rockstar’s Max Payne 3. That small bit of cash ($10) will get you some time with an older, tired Max Payne. He’s not jumping over balconies or ledges anymore, but he’s disgruntled and ready to murder whoever ruins his day–it turns out, a lot of people ruin Max’s day. Not only are the firefights brutal, if a bit gross, but the soundtrack by Health keeps the pacing on track as you run through the slums of São Paulo. Did I mention the game looks bangin’ on the PC?

And if you haven’t played Dishonored yet, well, c’mon, you said you liked video games, right? It’s $10. Go.

Castle_Crashers_Knight_by_2Stickman2Let’s dive right in with Castle Crashers, which is an absolute blast with friends. Simple gameplay, but done very well. Terraria is on sale once again. It’s another game that is brilliant to play cooperatively. Insanely good value for the hours of entertainment that it offers.

Dishonored is down to $10.19. A game superbly developed with gameplay that is both addictive and memorable. If you’ve been holding out for this title, waiting for it to reach a cheap price, I think it’s time for you to drop the dollars and be entertained.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s tips and recommendations by the Pixel Enemy crew. Same time, same sale, sale level of destitution.
